Everest Base Camp is more than a destination; it is the home of the toughest people on earth. We climb with respect, not ego. Choosing this path means choosing a cycle of giving: from fair wages and top-tier care for our porters to the support of constructing schools and sanitation in Haripur. Step into the shadow of the world’s highest peak, knowing that your presence builds a stronger community long after the snow has melted.
This expedition wouldn’t exist without Braze — a small team doing quiet, essential work in the Himalaya.
They bridge climbers, guides, and local projects, proving that meaningful impact starts long before the first step on the trail.

Departure Day
This expedition can be part of a broader Cold Ember storytelling journey. Along the way we document the landscapes, the culture and the people we meet. Of course, you are not mandatory to be “on camera”. But you do become part of the atmosphere that shapes the final piece: a cinematic reflection of the himalayas, and the people that take care of it.
Expedition leader
Jordy built Cold Ember by scouting routes himself first, from Kilimanjaro to Everest Base Camp and now the Tien Shan. On this expedition, Jordy keeps the overview, makes the on-mountain decisions and ensures the group moves safely and steadily.
He also films the quiet moments that make this journey worth remembering.

The Everest Base Camp trek is graded as challenging but non-technical. You do not need climbing ropes or crampons; it is a long-distance hike on rough terrain. The main challenge is the altitude and the duration (12 days of walking). If you are fit, active, and capable of walking 5-7 hours a day with a light daypack, this goal is absolutely achievable. Mental resilience is just as important as physical fitness.
No. This is a trekking expedition, not a climbing expedition. You don't need technical mountaineering skills. However, previous experience with multi-day hiking or camping is a great advantage for your confidence. We recommend training by hiking 15-20km with a weighted backpack to prepare your legs for the Himalayas.
Altitude sickness is a real risk, but our itinerary is designed to minimize it. We follow the "climb high, sleep low" principle and include specific acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Our guides are WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certified and check your oxygen saturation and heart rate daily. If you listen to your body and drink enough water, the vast majority of trekkers reach Base Camp safely.
The two best seasons are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (Late September to November). Spring: Warmer temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and a buzzing Base Camp filled with climbing expeditions preparing for the summit. Autumn: Colder, but offers the clearest skies and the most spectacular mountain views. We do not run treks during the Monsoon (Summer) or deep Winter (Jan-Feb) to ensure your safety and comfort.
Temperatures vary wildly. In the lower valleys, days can be pleasant (15°C). However, above 4,000m and at night, temperatures drop significantly. Expect -10°C to -15°C at Gorak Shep or Base Camp at night. We recommend a 4-season sleeping bag (rated -20°C), which you can easily rent in Kathmandu.
Unlike many budget operators, our package is Full Board, meaning your breakfast, lunch, and dinner are already paid for. You only need cash for personal luxuries like hot showers (~$5), Wi-Fi (~$5), battery charging, chocolate bars, and alcohol. We recommend bringing approx. $250 - $350 USD in local currency for these extras and tips for the crew.
The cost of the flight to Lukla (one of the world's most spectacular flights) is fully included in your package. Note: During peak season, flights often operate from Ramechhap airport to manage air traffic. We handle all the transfers and logistics for you, so you don't have to worry.
We stay in Teahouses, which are simple, family-run mountain lodges. You will sleep in twin-share rooms with beds, mattresses, and blankets. As we move higher, facilities become more basic. We always select the best available teahouses to ensure you have a clean and comfortable place to rest after a long day.
To reduce plastic waste (#CarryMeBag), we strongly discourage buying bottled water. You can fill your bottles with tap water at the teahouses and use purification tablets or a filter (like LifeStraw/Grayl). Boiled water is also available for purchase at the lodges.
You only carry your daypack (with water, camera, rain jacket, sunblock). Your main luggage (up to 10-12kg) is carried by our strong and fairly paid porters. We provide you with a sturdy Duffel Bag for your gear, which the porters will transport from lodge to lodge.
